London, Nov. 2 (Xinhua News Agency) - smoking in large quantities can make people look older, which is just one of the many negative effects of smoking, a new British study has found.
In order to investigate the impact of smoking on human health, researchers from the University of Bristol conducted a statistical analysis of health data from the UK biomedical database. They divided the sample into two groups, one group was never smokers, the other group was smokers and people with a history of smoking.
Using two new data analysis methods, the researchers identified known effects of smoking, such as poor lung function, a higher risk of COPD and skin cancer. In this analysis, they also found that smoking a lot will make peoples faces age faster and look older than their actual age.
In addition to analyzing the many dangers of smoking, the data analysis tools can also be used to find out the impact of other living habits on human health, such as alcohol intake, the researchers said. The results of the study were recently published in the American Public Library of science genetics.
