Since August, the rainfall in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River has been less than 50% than that in the same period of the whole year. Some provinces have experienced continuous drought in autumn, and some counties (cities) have suffered serious drought.

There are 1.46 million people who have difficulty drinking water due to drought. The drought is more serious than the same period of the year. The drought is mainly concentrated in Jiangxi, Anhui, Fujian, Chongqing and other provinces and cities.
After the drought, the Ministry of water resources issued many dispatching orders to dispatch the upper reaches of the Yangtze River reservoir group, the Three Gorges reservoir, Danjiangkou reservoir and other key water conservancy projects, timely increase the discharge, adjust the water levels of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Poyang Lake and Dongting Lake as much as possible, and strive to ensure the water demand for drought resistance in the lower reaches.

Water conservancy departments at all levels should pay close attention to the development trend of drought in the south, do a solid job in drought relief work, strengthen the scheduling of water conservancy projects, and ensure the basic living water supply for the masses in remote mountainous areas through drought resistant well drilling, water pumping and other drought relief measures.
