Beijing, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) - according to foreign media reports, recently, Russia again increased its troops to northern Syria, this time sending about 300 soldiers and 20 armored vehicles. The Russian army and the Turkish army will conduct joint patrols in the border area between Turkey and Syria.
According to reports, Russian patrols will pass at least 10 control points every day, need to patrol about 150 kilometers in five hours, and report the situation at each control point. At present, the Russian army is continuing to investigate the route of the joint patrol.
On October 12, Turkey launched a military operation against Syrian Kurdish forces, and the Turkish Syrian border was bombed and caught fire.
According to reports, the Russian and Turkish sides signed a memorandum of understanding on October 22, stipulating that Kurdish armed personnel and weapons should withdraw to the area 30 kilometers away from the border line between Turkey and Syria within 150 hours, i.e. by the afternoon of October 29 local time at the latest; after the evacuation, the Russian and Turkish soldiers will jointly patrol in specific areas of the border.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei sauigu said Thursday that Kurdish forces had completed their withdrawal on time. Turkeys defense minister, Hulusi akar, said that evening that Turkey and Russia would start joint patrols soon, but did not mention the specific time.
