At the request of Egypt, the League of Arab States held an emergency meeting of foreign ministers at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday to discuss Turkeys military operations across the border in northern Syria. Arab League Secretary-General Gate and several Arab foreign ministers, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukaili, strongly condemned Turkeys actions at the meeting.
In the draft resolution released after the meeting, the Arab League demanded that Turkey immediately cease its military operations in Syria, and stressed that the military operations may have devastating consequences for previous efforts to combat extremist organizations in the region. The League also calls on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take measures to intervene in this issue as soon as possible in order to avoid further instability in the region.
