 Japan and South Korea have not reached an agreement on export control issues and will consult again


At the end of the consultation, Japans Minister of Commerce and Industry, Junichiro Kuroda, told the media that the ROK has made a request to hold the next consultation and also mentioned that Japan has agreed. Whether there is room for compromise between the two sides, he pointed out that it is inconvenient to express opinions with pre-judgment and showed a cautious attitude.

Ding Haiguan, co-ordinator of the new trade order of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Resources of Korea, also affirmed the continuation of the consultation, but on the other hand, he was not satisfied with the consultation.

Reported that the dispute settlement panel in principle need to reach a conclusion within 180 days after its establishment, but in recent years there have been significant delays. When the State concerned is not satisfied with the report of the expert group, it may appeal to the Appellate Body equivalent to the final trial, and it may take several years to reach a final conclusion.
