China Aerospace Daily reported on October 11 that on October 9, the project General Technology and Engineering Application of New Generation Manned Rocket with 5-metre Diameter Module organized by China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Limited successfully passed the Acceptance Review organized by China Manned Space Engineering Office. The experts agreed that the results of the pre-research project could be used for the development of a new generation of manned launch vehicle in China.

According to the long-term mission planning of Chinas manned space project and the development concept of the new generation launch vehicle system, the first institute, with the overall support and traction of the project, started the preliminary research of Chinas new generation of manned launch vehicle in 2017. After many rounds of demonstration and development, it has now taken a key step.

As an important means to support the construction of a powerful aerospace country, the project outlines the overall prototype of a new generation of manned rockets: the arrow is about 87 meters long, the takeoff weight is about 2200 tons, the takeoff thrust is close to 2700 tons, and the LTO (lunar orbit) carrying capacity is no less than 25 tons. Subsequently, the specific development plan of the rocket will continue to be updated, improved and refined under the overall arrangement of the project and the Aerospace Science and Technology Group.

The rocket will adopt new escape system design technology, light weight and high efficiency structure design and advanced manufacturing technology, light weight and high reliability thrust vector control technology, new technology of rocket longitudinal coupling vibration suppression, advanced testing and launching technology, redundancy of rocket power system and reconfiguration of flight control technology, cold helium pressurization technology, low impact and high reliability ship-rocket separation technology, among which large diameter and large temperature difference technology. The technology of design and manufacture of cryogenic common bottom tank, design and manufacture of bottom force transfer structure of 100 ton thrust tank, and electrostatic thrust vector control of large thrust rocket engine are the first in the world.

The rocket will fully inherit the mature engine technology and highly reliable flight control technology of the new generation launch vehicles, such as Long March 5 and Long March 7, and simplify the escape mode to improve the safety of astronauts. The launch efficiency of the rocket has been greatly improved by means of the parallel connection of multiple engines, the transmission of 1000-ton bundled load and the integration of the structure design of the rocket body, as well as the adoption of a large number of new materials and technologies.

According to Xinhua News Agency, during the 2017 Global Space Exploration Conference, the head of the Manned Space Engineering Office said that China was steadily advancing the advance study of manned lunar landing.

At present, the maximum LTO carrying capacity of Chinas launch vehicles is about 8 tons. In order to achieve a significant leap from unmanned to manned, it is necessary to develop a new generation of manned rockets with large capacity, high safety and reliability. For this reason, the overall organization of the project has carried out technical demonstration and put forward the requirements for the development of a new generation of manned rockets, which can be used to launch a new generation of manned spacecraft and accomplish the long-term development task together with heavy rockets.
