China news agency, Beijing, September 24, Tehran: Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabbi said on 23 local time that all the legal procedures needed to release the previously detained British tanker Stainer Empire have been completed.

The Iranian Government Information Service quoted Rabbi as saying: The legal aspects of the release of the British tanker are over.

DATA FIGURE: On July 2, photos of British tankers seized by Iran were released. Iranian speedboats patrolled around the tankers and the Revolutionary Guards mounted the ship with guns.

On 4 July, the British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar, seized the Grace I tanker carrying Iranian crude oil in the Strait of Gibraltar on suspicion of transporting oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions. On 19 July, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Navy detained the British tanker Stainer Empire in Iranian waters of the Strait of Hormuz on suspicion of violating international maritime regulations, and then escorted it to Abbas Port.

On 15 August, the Gibraltar authorities announced the release of Grace I. On September 16, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Moussavi announced that the lawsuit against the Stainer Empire was almost over and that the seizure of the tanker would soon be lifted.
