U.S. Government-wide Measures for China China: Cold War Zero-sum Thinking is Dangerous

According to the client information of Peoples Daily, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying presided over the regular press conference on September 16.

Some journalists asked questions. It was reported that in a speech recently, Assistant Secretary of State Ford of the United States said that the United States Government was formulating government-wide measures to address the security challenges posed by China to the United States and its allies. How do you comment?

Hua Chunying: We have noticed the reports. Mr. Fords speech ignores the facts, wilfully discredits and distorts Chinas domestic and foreign policies, advocates and incites the China threat, and fully exposes some people in the United States stubbornly holding the cold war zero-sum mentality. This is very dangerous.

Facts speak louder than words. Justice is in the heart. History has proved and will continue to prove that Chinas development is an opportunity for the world, and that China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of international order. This is not something that any country or anyone can denigrate.

We urge the relevant people of the United States to abandon the zero-sum thinking of the cold war, treat China-US relations objectively and rationally, and focus more on promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the United States so as to better benefit the peoples of the two countries and the peoples of the world.
