South Koreas Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that it had written to Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), expressing deep disappointment and concern about the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committees intention to allow the Sunrise Flag to enter the stadium, and demanding that the IOC ban the use of the Sunrise Flag.

According to reports, the letter said that the rising sun flag symbolized the Japanese imperialistsaggressive war against Asia at the end of the 19th century, was a symbol of Japanese militarism and imperialism, and was used by Japanese right-wing groups in xenophobic demonstrations.

South Koreas Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the Rising Sun Flag was like the Nazi ten thousand characters to Europeans to South Korea and other Asian countries that had been invaded by Japan.

The Olympic Charter formulated by the IOC stipulates that no form of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda shall be allowed in any Olympic venue, venue or other place. FIFA has banned the use of the Sun Flag.
