This year, Huaweis chip deployment is becoming more and more perfect, and the building of chip platform is also very radical. For example, the Kupeng chip based on Arm architecture is different from the well-known mobile phone chip. Kupeng chip is the core processor of the server, which is used for B-terminal business such as data center. The cloud and digital transformation can not be separated from the data center.
Quickening the ecological layout of Kupeng
Recently, Huaweis layout of Kupeng has been accelerating. It has laid out Kupeng bases throughout the country, including Chengdu, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Nanjing.
In early September, Huawei and Chengdu government reached cooperation to build Huawei Kuipeng ecological base. At the recent World Artificial Intelligence Congress in 2019, Huawei and Shanghai Municipal Government launched Kuipeng Industrial Ecological Innovation Center.
On September 2, the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Huawei signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build Shenzhen Kunpeng Industrial Ecological Base. At the signing ceremony, Huawei said it planned to invest 3 billion yuan in the development of Kunpeng industrial ecology in five years. Specific areas of cooperation between the two sides include: building platform carriers, building Kuipeng Industry Source Innovation Center, jointly building Kuipeng Open Laboratory, building national industrial innovation center and manufacturing innovation center, etc.
Earlier, Huawei launched the Cloud for Good: Kunpeng New Ecology Huawei talent training program for Chongqing Kunpeng Lingyun in conjunction with Chongqing universities and relevant educational institutions. This project will cover the whole ecological field of Huawei and fully connect with Chongqings industrial system. Huawei plans to train millions of kuipeng engineers nationwide in three years, establish an innovative talent center, an intelligent joint innovation laboratory and a training base for intelligent talents, and develop kuipeng courses in cooperation with universities.
For example, Huawei has cooperated with Xiamen Municipal Government to officially establish the first Kupeng Eco-Base and Supercomputing Center in Xiamen. It is understood that the center relies on Huaweis self-developed products and service capabilities, uses Taishan server with Huawei Kuipeng CPU as its core, and introduces domestic operating systems and database systems to provide end-to-end computing capabilities for the government, large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and key industries in Xiamen. The total scale of the project is estimated to be about 1.5 billion yuan. Huawei has also signed a deep cooperation agreement with Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, and Huawei Kunpeng Eco-industrial Base in Jiangsu Province has settled in the new area.
So what is Kuipeng in the end? According to Huawei, the Kunpeng 920 released this year can provide better performance for data centers with lower power consumption. In terms of parameters, the main frequency of Kunpeng 920 can reach 2.6 GHz, and the single chip can support 64 cores. The chip integrates 8 channels DDR4 and 100GRoCE Ethernet card, which improves the system integration. Hi1620 is Huatous first 7-nm data center ARM processor, 8-channel memory, supporting PCIe 4.0 and CCIX.
At the same time, Huawei has also launched TaiShan series server products based on Kunpeng 920, which has great ambition.
Because now in the server chip market, it is still the home of Intel x86 architecture, and Intel does not authorize outside. In addition to x86, mainstream server chip architectures include MIPS, Power and ARM. Among them, the ecosystem of ARM is the most mature and can not be ignored. Over the years, Qualcomm, Yingweida, Samsung and other factories have tried to build ARM ecosystem, but they have not succeeded. At the same time, many enterprises are still insisting on self-research ARM chips, such as Amazon, Huawei, Huaxintong and so on. Backed by Chinas huge market, we are also waiting to see Huaweis performance.
Adding Code Computing Power and Artificial Intelligence
As Moores law becomes more and more difficult to maintain, in Huaweis view, AI faces four major challenges. They are the serious imbalance of power supply, scarcity and expensive; for example, many traditional industries require high deployment scenarios and the environment is harsh and changeable; cloud-side data can not be coordinated and interoperable; professional and technical requirements are high, and professional talent shortage.

Our mobile phones all use ARM, mobile phones for the development of game applications in the cloud, using ARM is naturally better than X86, so for the application of ARM, it will find some most suitable and cost-effective scenarios, for example, to play its comprehensive characteristics, play its low-energy efficiency characteristics.
In the field of servers and components, the market space is over 400 billion yuan. Servers are the foundation of any IT industry. Although servers have been localized, the most core and costly CPUs in servers are basically from overseas manufacturers. CITIC believes that Huaweis cooperation with server manufacturers can not only reduce the cost of domestic server manufacturers (Kuipeng chip is expected to be cheaper than Intel), but also improve the localization rate of servers so as to achieve full autonomy and control of servers.
More importantly, Huawei is not only Kunpeng. In August, Huaweis AI chip Shengsheng 910 began commercial landing. Shengsheng 910 is also used in data center. As a result, Huawei has not only processors for servers, but also chips specifically designed to improve AI performance, that is to say, it has both a brain and an intelligent accelerator. They can also be used in conjunction with each other, both of which are self-developed by Huawei and are only used for Huawei products, thus improving the artificial intelligence ecology.
