The above sampling report shows that the steamed Maccha cake (production date/batch number: 2019-04-24) produced by Jieyang Gangrong Food Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Gangrong Food) sold by Meilun Supermarket in Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City, exceeds the standard of propylene glycol and does not meet the national food safety standards.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Market Supervision, propylene glycol is widely used in food, medicine and cosmetics industry because of its good adhesion and hygroscopicity. The National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB2760-2014) stipulates that the function of propylene glycol is stabilizer and coagulant, anti-caking agent, thickener, etc. The maximum use of propylene glycol in pastries is 3.0g/kg. The content of propylene glycol in steamed cake made by Jieyang Gangrong Food reached 3.58 g/kg.

The Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Market Supervision pointed out that propylene glycol is a low toxic substance, and long-term overconsumption may cause kidney disorders.

Hong Kong Rong Food said in an interview with the media that the above batches of products showed excessive propylene glycol content, which may be caused by transportation, weather or other problems.

It is worth mentioning that Hong Kong Rong steamed cake was not the first time that propylene glycol was found to exceed the standard. In May this year, the Hubei Provincial Market Supervision and Administration also found that the steamed Maccha cake (production date/batch number: 2019-2-18) produced by Hongrong Food Co., Ltd. was sold by Zhongbai Storage Supermarket Co., Ltd. in Beijing-Shan Union Plaza Store. The detection value of propylene glycol was 4.81g/kg, which exceeded the upper limit of 3.0g/kg stipulated by the standard.

Never thought, two months later, Hong Kong Rong steamed cake was found to exceed the standard again. In this regard, netizens are talking about one after another. Some people say love you is not steamed.
