In August, consumer prices rose by 0.7% annually. Among them, urban rose 0.6%, rural rose 1.0%; food prices rose 3.2%, non-food prices rose 0.1%; consumer prices rose 1.1%, service prices rose 0.2%.

I. Year-on-year changes in prices of various commodities and services

In August, food, tobacco and alcohol prices rose by 7.3% year on year, affecting CPI (consumer price index) by about 2.14 percentage points. Among them, livestock prices rose by 30.9%, affecting CPI by about 1.31 percentage points (pork prices rose 46.7%, affecting CPI by about 1.08 percentage points); fresh fruit prices rose 24.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.39 percentage points; poultry prices rose 9.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.12 percentage points; egg prices rose 3.8%, shadow. Sound CPI rose by about 0.02 percentage points; aquatic product prices rose by 1.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points; grain prices rose by 0.7%, affecting CPI by about 0.01 percentage points; fresh vegetable prices fell by 0.8%, affecting CPI by about 0.02 percentage points.

Prices of the other seven categories rose and fell one year on the sixth. Among them, the prices of other goods and services, health care, education, culture and entertainment rose by 4.7%, 2.3% and 2.1%, clothing, housing, daily necessities and services rose by 1.6%, 1.0% and 0.7%, respectively, while the prices of transportation and communication decreased by 2.3%.

II. Ring-to-Ring Changes in Prices of Various Goods and Services

In August, food, tobacco and alcohol prices rose by 2.2% annually, affecting CPI by about 0.67 percentage points. Among them, livestock and meat prices rose by 15.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.71 percentage points (pork prices rose by 23.1%, affecting CPI by about 0.62 percentage points); egg prices rose by 5.9%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points; poultry prices rose by 3.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.04 percentage points; fresh vegetables prices rose by 2.8%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points. CPI rose by about 0.07 percentage points; aquatic product prices rose by 0.9%, affecting CPI by about 0.02 percentage points; fresh fruit prices fell by 10.1%, affecting CPI by about 0.22 percentage points.

The other seven categories of prices have risen two times and fallen two times. Among them, the prices of other goods and services, health care and housing rose by 1.4%, 0.2% and 0.1% respectively; the prices of clothing, transportation and communications fell by 0.3% and 0.2% respectively; the prices of daily necessities and services, education, culture and entertainment remained the same.

1. Indicator Interpretation

Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the relative changes in the prices of consumer goods and services over time, which comprehensively reflects the changes in the prices of consumer goods and services purchased by residents.

2. Statistical Scope

The survey covers the prices of food, tobacco, alcohol, clothing, housing, daily necessities and services, transportation and communications, education, culture and entertainment, medical care, other goods and services consumed by urban and rural residents, and 262 basic categories of commodities and services.

3. Investigation methods

Sampling survey method is used to select and determine survey sites. According to the principle of fixed person, fixed point and fixed time, people are sent directly to survey sites to collect the original price. The data come from more than 88,000 price surveys in 500 cities and counties of 31 provinces (districts and cities), including shopping malls (stores), supermarkets, agricultural markets, service outlets and Internet e-commerce.
