 Zimbabwe chartered flights to return Mugabes family to their burial home

Leo Mugabe, a family spokesman and nephew of Mugabe, said the plane took off from the capital Harare on the morning of September 9 to Singapore and his body was expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Wednesday afternoon.

On September 6, former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe died in Singapore at the age of 95. Zimbabwean President Emerson Mnangaguwa disclosed in August that Mugabe had been treated in a hospital in Singapore since April, but did not disclose what diseases he suffered from.

It is not clear where Mugabe will be buried. Reuters reported on the 9th that Mugabes family opposed the governments plan to bury him at the National Heroes Cemetery in Harare, but wanted to bury him in his hometown.

Asked where Mugabe would be buried, Leo told the media, Mugabe is a chief who will be buried according to tradition. The chiefs havent told us where he will be buried, and I dont know.

Reuters reported that in parts of Zimbabwe, the chieftains funeral was a secret event, and people were usually told where he was buried afterwards.

Born in February 1924, Mugabe is the leader of Zimbabwes National Liberation Movement. After Zimbabwes independence in 1980, Mugabe became the real prime minister. After Zimbabwe changed to a presidential system in 1987, he served as President and began a 30-year rule. On November 21, 2017, Mugabe resigned as President.

On June 6, Zimbabwes President Emerson Mnangaguwa announced that the Zimbabwean government had decided to award Mugabe the national hero. Praise Mugabe for being the founder, great mentor and statesman of Zimbabwe and the father of the country who led Zimbabwe to independence.
