Hong Kong Railway has issued an open letter condemning violence: facing the most serious challenge in 40 years

Today (8 September), Hong Kong Railway Chairman Ouyang Boquan and Chief Executive Officer Kim Ze-pei sent an open letter to passengers, pointing out that the violence caused by recent social and political disputes has spread to the MTR network, resulting in dozens of stations being destroyed one after another. They are distressed by the impact of public travel and the threat to the personal safety of their colleagues on the front line of MTR. Regrettably, condemn all acts of violence that undermine order.

Ouyang Boquan and Kim Ze-pei said in their letters that MTR is home to Hong Kong and is currently experiencing the most serious challenges in its 40 years of operation. In order to reduce the impact of the situation on passengers, MTR staff stick to their posts and keep safe railway services. We hope that the general public will respect each other and let MTR staff continue to focus on their duties without disturbance.

Observer. com previously reported that since August, the MTR has been repeatedly damaged by violent demonstrators:

At Yuen Long Station, Black Clothes Man used umbrellas and helmet to knock on the walls and ceilings of the MTR Station crazily, and tore down more than 10 fire extinguishers to continuously spray, which filled the lobby with smoke. In the early morning of September 5, East Railway cable was even hung on a bicycle, causing the first train to delay departure. This may lead to train failure or even high-speed derailment and other serious accidents. On the evening of June 6, rioters stormed the MTR Prince Rail Station, smashing and destroying its facilities in a frenzied manner. Another group of demonstrators blocked police stations and obstructed traffic. During the period, rioters destroyed traffic facilities and even set fire in many places on the street. As early as September 2, at a meeting of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Li Jiachao, head of the Security Bureau, said, In the past two days, rioters have destroyed the railway and airports, blocked traffic, escalated lawless and violent acts, and they have the nature of terror.
