Will 4G network speed be reduced? Mobile Telecoms 4G Network Speed is Lower than the National Average

August 25, news, recently, whether the speed of 4G network has been reduced has been pushed to the forefront of the wind. Reporters learned on August 25 that the Broadband Development Alliance released the second quarter China Broadband Rate Report, showing that the average download rate of mobile broadband users accessing the Internet using the 4G network reached 23.58M per second, up 16.6% from the same period last year.

It is noteworthy that among the three operators, China Unicom has the highest download rate for its 4G users, while both mobile and telecommunications have lower network speeds than the national average.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three major operators have denied that the manual reduction of 4G network speed. So whats the speed of the 4G network? This new report just gives the answer. Reporters also learned that the management unit of Broadband Development Alliance is China Communications Standardization Association, which also has a certain official background.

The report also published the rankings of broadband network related rates of provinces (regions, municipalities), major cities and basic telecommunications enterprises in China. In terms of 4G network download rate, among the three major operators, China Unicoms 4G network user download rate is 24.86M per second, followed by Mobiles 23.46M per second and Telecoms 23.23M per second. It is noteworthy that the download rates of mobile and telecommunication users are indeed lower than the national average of 23.58M per second.

From the perspective of provinces and cities, the download rate of 4G network users in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong and Jiangsu ranks among the top five provincial administrative regions in China.

If you look at the subregion, the average download rate of 4G users in the eastern region is 24.4M per second, followed by 23.47M per second in the central region and 22.88M per second in the western region.

In addition, the report also shows that the average download rate of fixed broadband network in China reached 35.46M per second in the second quarter, up 14.15M per second from the same period last year.

According to the Broadband Development Alliance, the relevant data show that the fixed broadband user experience rate in China is rapidly increasing, and the mobile broadband network rate is also steadily increasing.

In addition, broadband development alliance analysis shows that in recent years, China has promoted speed-up and fee-reduction, and 4G network has achieved universal coverage in urban and rural areas. As of the second quarter of 2019, the proportion of national 4G users reached 77.6%, ranking among the worlds advanced ranks, laying the network foundation for broadband network speed improvement.

However, the Broadband Development Alliance also indicated that, according to the requirements of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and SASASAC, in 2019, operators will also promote the expansion and upgrading of mobile networks, deepen the pilot of universal telecommunication services, continue to improve the network architecture, and enhance the ability of Internet applications, so as to further open up from user terminals to Internet applications. Each link of the end-to-end broadband network experience rate promotion promotes the broadband network experience rate in China.

In fact, on August 23, the three major operators issued a statement concurrently, which made it clear that they had never received the Ministry of Industry and Information Technologys request to reduce or limit the speed of 4G network, nor did they slow down the speed of 4G network themselves.

As for the reasons why some users feel that the speed of 4G network is decreasing, the three major users say that with the development of speed-up and fee-reduction work, various preferential high-flow tariff packages have been launched, and the per capita flow of households continues to grow rapidly, resulting in an explosive growth of traffic. In some areas with large crowds and concentrated Internet users, there may be too many Internet users at the same time during the peak period, resulting in the decline of temporary experience rate of 4G network, which may also result in the poor connection of some users.

Operators also indicated that in the future, they will continue to do a good job in ensuring the optimization of 4G network, promote the coordinated development of 4G and 5G, improve the overall level of network services and user perception, and meet the growing demand of mobile Internet users.
