At about 8 oclock on August 23, 2019, a Hong Kong man named Zhang Mou-mou took a picture with an A4 paper printed with the words Rehabilitation of Hong Kong in his local Everest headquarters. He was found by other tourists to dissuade him and alert him.

After examination, the mans behavior violated the relevant provisions of the Law on Administrative Penalties for Public Security, and the public security organs warned him according to law. Zhang admitted his mistake and said that he would abide by the laws of the Mainland, no longer engage in similar illegal activities, and was released after regretting. Nine of Zhang Mous colleagues were found to be involved in illegal activities after investigation. They cooperated actively to explain the situation and were released.

Ten Hong Kong students who raised the slogan Hong Kong independence in Everest have been investigated.

According to the Hong Kong Media 24, the University of Hong Kong said that all 10 Hong Kong students who had been taken away for investigation had been released. Eight of the 10 students were from the University of Hong Kong, one from the City University of Hong Kong and one from the University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong.
