China News Agency, Macao, August 24 (Xinhua) -- Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Cui Shian, met with U.S. Congressman Dina Titus and his delegation at the government headquarters on August 24. He said that the successful practice of one country, two systems has enabled Macaos economy to grow rapidly, the society to be harmonious and stable, and the citizens to live and work in peace and contentment.
On behalf of the Macau SAR Government, Cui first welcomed the delegation led by Diena Titus, a member of the US Congress, to visit Macau. He said: This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. I hope you will experience the vigorous development of Macaos economy and understand Macaos tourism and cultural characteristics.
Cui Shian introduced the development of Macao in the past 20 years since its return. He said that under the protection of the one country, two systems policy, the Macao SAR Government enjoys a high degree of autonomy and can formulate relevant policies on its own. Macao has always adhered to the principle of one country and made good use of the benefits of two systems, constantly promoting multi-party cooperation and achieving common development.
He pointed out that the successful practice of one country, two systems effectively reflected Macaos good economic performance and stable social development, and maintained political stability, economic prosperity, social harmony and improvement of peoples livelihood.
Dina Titus said that she was very happy to come to Macau for a visit to deepen her understanding of one country, two systems through the introduction of the Chief Executive. Members of the delegation also included the Chairman of the American-Asian Research Institute and members of Congress from the western United States. We believe that there will be more opportunities for cooperation and dialogue between the two sides in the future, and there will be more room for cooperation in trade, economy and education.
Dina Titus also took the initiative to talk about the Sino-US trade war. She believed that the Sino-US trade war was a losing situation and hoped to end as soon as possible, because the trade war not only affected the economy, but also affected the exchanges between the two peoples and social and cultural exchanges.
