The Foreign Office in Hong Kong urged U.S. parliamentarians to draw a line with extremist violence

The spokesman pointed out that in the 22 years since Hong Kongs return to China, one country, two systems, Hong Kong people administer Hong Kong and a high degree of autonomy have been effectively implemented. Hong Kong compatriots have truly achieved ownership and enjoyed unprecedented broad rights and freedoms in accordance with the law. The global ranking of Hong Kongs rule of law index jumped from more than 60 in 1996 to 16th in 2018, which is higher than the current global ranking of the United States. The ironclad fact is not that American politicians can blacken it if they want to. Are they happy to see Hong Kong become a capital of violence? Is that the autonomy and freedom they want in their hearts?

The spokesman stressed that Hong Kong is Chinas Hong Kong and that Hong Kongs affairs are purely Chinas internal affairs. No country, organization or individual should interfere in any way. No one should underestimate our firm determination to safeguard national sovereignty and security and Hong Kongs prosperity and stability. No one should delude that we will succumb to the threats and pressures of foreign intervention forces. We strongly urge the relevant US politicians to abide by the basic norms of international law and international relations, respect the just demands of the overwhelming majority of Hong Kong citizens in combating violence, protecting the rule of law and supporting the police force, put themselves in a right position, recognize the situation, immediately draw a clear line with extremist violence, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kongs affairs and Chinas internal affairs.
