Reported that with the loss of Chinas main customer, Sheila and her team had to turn their eyes to other markets. They are processing and packaging lobsters for shipment to 29 other countries. But all these countries add up to a single market in China.
Sheila believes that the Chinese people have a special preference for live lobster, and there are many people and large markets. As a wholesaler, this is very important for us.
According to the report, Wade Merritt, chairman of Maine International Trade Center, said, Before the tariff was imposed, our exports increased by 170% from January to June 2018. But by the end of 2018, Maines exports of live lobster to China had fallen by nearly 7%. In those six months, we lost a lot in a very short time.
According to reports, lobster companies have said that in order to survive, they have to consider moving the company from Maine to Canada to avoid tariffs.
