The Australian Government will invest 3 billion Australian dollars in armed special forces

Xinhua News Agency, Canberra, August 12 (Reporter Yue Dongxing) The Australian Government announced on August 12 that it would invest A$3 billion (A$1, about US$0.68) in 20 years to equip sophisticated equipment, thereby enhancing the combat effectiveness of special forces.

The Australian governments official website said in a statement the same day that the investment in special forces is to continue to strengthen the special combat capabilities mentioned in the 2016 Australian Defense White Paper.

In a statement, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the governments approval of funding would ensure that special forces have sophisticated equipment and capabilities to better respond to threats including terrorism.

The statement said that the first phase of the special forces investment is called the Grafin Project, which is expected to invest 500 million Australian dollars. Australian Defense Minister Linda Reynolds said that the Grafin Project will provide the best equipment for special forces and help them cooperate with intelligence, technology and other agencies to assess future threats and opportunities.
