 Miao Gengshu, former president and party secretary of China Minmetals Group, died at the age of 77.


Miao Gengshu was born in Linzhang, Hebei Province in August 1941. He joined the Communist Party of China in December 1963 and worked in September 1966. Since August 1968, he has successively been the exporter, manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Hardware and Mineral Import and Export Corporation. Since May 1990, he has served as Deputy Director of Shanghai Foreign Economic and Trade Commission and Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Foreign Economic and Trade Working Committee of the Communist Party of China. In September 1997, he was president of China National Hardware and Mineral Import and Export Corporation. In May 1998, he was President and Secretary of the Party Committee of China National Hardware and Mineral Import and Export Corporation. In May 2000, he was appointed President and Secretary of the Party Leading Group of China National Hardware and Mineral Import and Export Corporation (renamed China Mineral Group Corporation in January 2004). Appointed by the State Assets Commission of the State Council, he was the chairman and external director of China Foreign Trade Transport (Group) in December 2005, and the chairman and external director of China Foreign Transport Chairman Shipping Group Co., Ltd. in December 2008. He also served as president of China International Investment Promotion Association, Chinese Chairman of China-Brazil Entrepreneurs Committee, and supervisor of the Board of Supervisors of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited.

Miao Gengshu is a member of the 10th CPPCC National Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.
