Pakistani Foreign Ministers Emergency Visit to China Wang Yi to Talk about the Situation in Kashmir

Overseas Network, August 10, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the evening of August 9, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi who came to China on an urgent trip.

Qureshi gave a detailed briefing on Pakistans views, position and response to the latest developments in the situation in Kashmir in recent days. Qureshi said that China is a long-term trusted friend of Pakistan and that the friendship between Pakistan and China is rock-solid. It is believed that China will preside fairly over the Kashmir issue. Pakistan will also continue to support Chinas legitimate position on issues related to Chinas core interests without hesitation. Pakistan will continue to deepen its all-weather strategic partnership with China.

Wang Yi said that China is seriously concerned about the recent escalation of unrest in Kashmir. The Kashmir issue is a controversy left over from colonial history and should be properly settled peacefully in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements. China believes that unilateral actions should not be taken to complicate the situation.

Wang Yi stressed that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners. They have always understood and supported each other on issues related to each others core interests, which is also a good tradition to be cherished by both sides. China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests and in presiding over justice for Pakistan on the international stage.

Wang Yi also said that both Pakistan and India are friendly neighbours of China, are major developing countries and are at a critical stage of development. We call on both sides to focus on national development, peace in South Asia, properly handle historical grievances, break the zero-sum mentality, avoid unilateral actions and seek a new way of peaceful coexistence.
