Sudden death of construction workers at the Tokyo Olympic Games is suspected to be caused by heat stroke

On Thursday afternoon, a 50-year-old male construction worker was found unconscious lying on the ground in the hot sun while laying an outdoor cable. He was rushed to a local hospital and later confirmed dead. Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee staff said the cause of the workers death had not been formally determined, but several local media quoted local police as saying that they suspected the workers death from heatstroke, and the police did not immediately confirm these reports.

This is the third death related to the construction works of the Tokyo Olympic Games. Earlier, one worker committed suicide due to excessive work pressure and another died in an accident. The hot and humid summer weather in Tokyo is the biggest concern of the IOC, especially after last years heat wave swept Tokyo. After a long rainy season this year, Tokyo was hit again by a deadly heat wave. According to statistics, more than 18,000 people were hospitalized for weather reasons in Japan last week, 57 of them died. Olympic organizers have come up with all kinds of cooling methods, including spray and fans, and even potted flower beds. Organizers say potted flower beds help to psychologically cool people around them. Out of concern for athleteshealth, organizers have also advanced the time of some events, including marathons.
