Yu Chengdong: Without sanctions, Huaweis mobile phone shipments this year should be the first in the world.

This afternoon, Huawei Developers Conference will open in Dongguan Songshan Lake in 2019.

At the meeting, in addition to highlighting the highly anticipated Hongmeng system, Huaweis consumer business CEO Yu Chengdong also disclosed that without U.S. sanctions, Huaweis mobile phone shipments this year would be probably the first in the world.

Because of the United States, it is a little impossible for us to be number one in the world this year, but it should be number two in the world. He said.

However, even under US sanctions, Huaweis mobile phone shipments in the first half of this year increased by 24% to 118 million units.

Yu Chengdong said that because of the U.S. sanctions, 10 million units were lost in the second quarter, otherwise 130 million units would have been achieved.

He also said that in the past eight years, Huaweis consumer sales grew 68-fold, from a small and medium-sized manufacturer ranked below to one of the top three suppliers of smart terminals. Last year, shipments of mobile phones reached 206 million units.

According to data provided by Yu Chengdong, Huaweis mobile phone market share in China has exceeded 35%, rising to 17.6% globally.

In April this year, Huaweis P30 series was on sale, and Turkish consumers queued up to buy pictures from Weibo.

In the second quarter of this year, Huawei shipped 37.3 million smartphones in China, ranking first with 38.2% market share, according to data released this week by Strategy Analytics, a well-known Market Research organization.

By contrast, Samsung, which ranks first in the global market, shipped 700,000 mobile phones in China with a market share of only 0.7%.

During the reporting period, except Huawei, the performance of other local manufacturers in the home market was equally impressive - OPPO (19.7 million), vivo (18.5 million), millet (12 million) ranked second, third and fourth with 19.7%, 18.5% and 12% respectively. Apple ranked fifth with a 6.2% market share in China.
