Netease Technologies News August 9, Huawei Consumer Business First Developer Conference held today. For the first time, Huawei has announced its own operating system, Hongmeng.

Yu Chengdong said that the long-term strategy of Huaweis consumer business in the next 5-10 years is a scenario-based wisdom life strategy. It also mentions Huaweis 1 + 8 + N strategy of consumer business: 1 is that mobile phones are the main entrance, 8 is the entrance of four large screens: PC, flat panel, smart screen, locomotive, instead of headphones, speakers, watches and glasses. N is Huawei HiLink Ecology which is composed of pan-IoT hardware. Among them, 1 + 8 is what Huawei is doing, and this N welcomes more partners to join, eventually forming a more open form.

So, facing the coming of the era of interconnection of all things, what kind of OS can satisfy the future world?

Yu Chengdong mentioned that Android or Linux kernel code is too redundant to guarantee the fluency of different terminal experiences. Moreover, the emergence of multi-terminal interconnection puts forward higher requirements for equipment security; software ecology and hardware binding reduce the user experience and development efficiency.

Yu Chengdong introduced four technical characteristics of Hongmeng OS.

Secondly, the delay engine and high-performance IPC technology are determined to achieve system fluency. Hongmeng OS solves the problem of inadequate performance of existing systems by using two technologies: deterministic delay engine and high performance IPC. Determining the delay engine can assign priority and time limit of task execution in the system before task execution. The priority task resources will give priority to scheduling, and the application response delay will be reduced by 25.7%. The compact structure of Hongmeng microkernel greatly improves the performance of IPC (interprocess communication) and the efficiency of process communication is five times higher than that of existing systems.

In addition, Hongmeng OS applies microkernel technology to Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to reshape trusted security through formal methods.

According to reports, Huawei will take the lead in using Hongmeng OS 1.0 in the smart screen products launched this year. In the next three years, besides improving related technologies, Hongmeng OS will gradually be applied in more intelligent devices such as wearable, intelligent screen, locomotive and so on.
