State Court Bribery Case: Second Instance Revised for 5 Years

On July 25, 2019, 13 criminal departments of the Seoul High Court, South Korea, sentenced Park to five yearsimprisonment and recovered 2.7 billion won. Thats one year less than the first trial.

South Koreas prosecution announced on January 4, 2018 that Park Hin-hye had accepted a bribe of 3.65 billion won from the National Intelligence Agency and prosecuted him further.

On July 20 of the same year, the court handed down a first instance judgment in the case, sentencing Park to six yearsimprisonment and paying 3.3 billion won for recovery. However, the prosecution refused to accept the judgment, and then lodged a protest, suggesting that the court sentenced Park to 12 yearsimprisonment.

On April 6, 2018, South Korean courts handed down a first-instance judgment on former President Park Hin-hyes Gan Zheng Men, and Park Hin-hye was convicted of many charges. He was sentenced to 24 years and fined 18 billion won.

In the first trial on April 6, 2018, Park was sentenced to 24 yearsimprisonment and fined 18 billion won. During the trial, the court held that 16 of the 18 charges against Park were established, including bribery, abuse of power, coercion of enterprises and other core charges.

However, the prosecution refused to accept the first instance judgment and lodged a protest on the grounds that some of the innocence judged by the court was misjudged. Therefore, the case was tried in the second instance.

Park Shinhui was arrested in the early morning of March 31, 2017. It has been more than two years since her arrest. The period of her detention has been extended many times.

On April 17, 2019, Parks lawyer filed a probation application with the prosecution on the grounds that her detention deteriorated her health. Park Shinhui was detained for more than two years. The symptoms of cervical vertebra and lumbar intervertebral disc did not improve. Her sleep was affected by severe pain, the lawyer said.

It is reported that Park Shinhui has been allowed to leave prison several times since she was imprisoned in 2017 for treatment of toe injuries, back pain and other diseases and oral care. Recently, she complained of chronic back pain and left prison for treatment.

But on April 25, South Korean prosecutors rejected Parks application for probation.
