Foreign Ministry on Cai Yings Transit to the United States: resolutely opposing official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan

Geng Shuang first corrected the term President used by journalists in their questioning and said that we call them leaders of the Taiwan region. Subsequently, Geng Shuang responded that we have already stated our position on the issue of transit of Taiwan leaders to the United States. Here I would like to emphasize once again that China firmly opposes official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and this position is firm and clear. We have made solemn negotiations with the United States on this issue. We urge the United States to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiquums, not allow Cai to cross the border in English, stop official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and not provide any platform for the separatist forces of Taiwan independence to advocate Taiwan independence and to be prudent and appropriate. We should deal with Taiwan-related issues so as not to seriously damage Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. On the issue of US arms sales to Taiwan, I also expressed Chinas solemn position a few days ago. We urge the United States to immediately withdraw the arms sales and stop the military ties between the United States and Taiwan.
