US military in South Korea confirms for the first time that North Koreas Mars-15 missile range covers the United States

According to the Strategic Summary, DPRK has three ICBM-class missiles: Mars-13, Mars-14 and Mars-15, with ranges of more than 5500 kilometers, 10058 kilometers and 12874 kilometers respectively. The US military in South Korea believes that the Mars-14 missile launched by North Korea can reach most parts of the US mainland, while the Mars-15 missile can attack the entire territory of the US mainland.

In the White Paper on National Defense 2018 released earlier this year, the Korean military said that North Korea possesses intercontinental ballistic missiles of Mars-13, Mars-13 enhanced type, Mars-14, Mars-15 type and Dapu Cave, with the range of Mars-15 reaching more than 10,000 kilometers.

This years Strategic Summary of the US Army stationed in Korea also lists the projected range and names of various DPRK medium-range and short-range ballistic missiles. They are the Scud-B/C/ER ballistic missiles with the longest range of 729 kilometers, the Polaris-2 with a range of over 997 kilometers, the Ludong with a range of 1287 kilometers, and other quasi-medium-range ballistic missiles. Medium-range ballistic missiles, such as Mars-10, with a range of 3218 kilometers, and Mars-12, with a range of 2896 kilometers or more. The Strategic Summary also pointed out that the DPRKs failure to launch missiles in succession last year, similar to 2016-2017, was welcome, but the ROK-US alliance still faced challenges, which had not been fundamentally changed. Although Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of the DPRK, instructed the abandonment of the missile test site and the dismantling of the well-known Fengxili nuclear test site, there are still many issues to be solved in order to achieve the ultimate goal of completely verifiable denuclearization. According to the Strategic Summary, South Korea purchased 13 billion US dollars of US-made weapons and equipment from 2013 to 2017, including UAVs, improved Patriot air defense missiles, warships, joint attack fighters, which are mainly used for defense of ballistic missiles, air control and maritime security.
