(A MiG-21 fighter is in the middle of a satellite photo)
[Global Network Military Reporting Internship Reporter Li Liang] According to the Defence Blog website on July 9, satellite photographs showed a MiG-21 fighter aircraft in the Russian Hemming Air Force Base in Syria. It is reported that the satellite photo was taken on 11 June.
There is still no exact information on why the MiG-21 fighter aircraft appeared at Hemming Air Force Base. On social media platforms, military enthusiasts have different views on this: some believe that Russia is helping to maintain Syrias MiG-21 fighter plane, others believe that the plane was placed as a monument at the entrance to the base.
Khmein Air Force Base is located in Latakia Province, Syria. On August 26, 2015, Syria signed an agreement with Russia to supply the base to the Russian Air Force. The base is the only Russian air base in Syria at present, and it is also an important air station for Russian equipment and personnel. The Russian Air Force has deployed Su-24, Su-25, Su-30, Su-34, Mi-8 and Mi-24 fighter planes and helicopters at the base. Because of the importance of the base, the Russian army deployed S-400 air defense system, armoured S1 artillery air defense system and electronic jamming device specially for UAV.
