 China Mobiles first 5G terminal evaluation: antenna performance and endurance need to be improved close to commercial conditions


China Mobile evaluated and compared three mainstream 5G chip manufacturers, including Hess Kirin 980 + Balong 5000, Qualcomm SDM855 + X50, and China Unicom HelioM70. Among them, Balong 5000 and M70 are 2/3/4/5G multi-mode modems and X50 are 5G single-mode modems.

China Mobile evaluated these three 5G chips in terms of 5G protocol stack perfection, MIMO throughput performance and power consumption performance. The evaluation shows that Hess Balong 5000 performs well in network compatibility and throughput performance. However, all three chips need continuous public relations in terms of technical characteristics and throughput, and power consumption needs continuous optimization in terms of packet traffic scenarios and high bandwidth and high throughput scenarios.

In addition, China Mobile also evaluated three 5GCPEs: Mate20X, ZTE Axon 10, OPPOReno 5G, vivoNEX, MIX3, Samsung S10+, six 5G mobile phones and China Mobile Pioneer 1, Hua5G CPEPro, ZTE 5GCPEMC801. China Mobile said that Huawei Mate20X benefited from HPUE and its total transmission power performed well. In strong field environment, Huawei Mate20X and ZTE Axon10 perform best in mobile phones, and Huawei Mate20X performs best in endurance. Although each terminal meets the requirement of heating limit, China Mobile has found that the average surface temperature of 5G version is higher than that of 4G version, which puts forward higher requirements for heat dissipation design of the whole machine.
