BEIJING, July 9 (CNN) -- According to foreign media reports, American billionaire, former hedge fund manager and environmental activist Tom Steyer announced on July 9 that he would join the Democratic Party campaign to participate in the 2020 US presidential election. He focused his campaigns core issues on climate change and political reform.
Reported that Steeles candidacy is likely to change the situation in the primary election, largely because he has a lot of money at his disposal. The former hedge fund manager is said to have committed at least $100 million to the presidential campaign.
Steele was one of the biggest donors to the Democratic Partys campaign. Steyr and his wife Catherine ranked second in all-time political donations, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. According to the organization, the two donated the third most money in the mid-term elections in 2018.
