China Daily Weibo reported on July 9 that two major earthquakes occurred in southern California and thousands of aftershocks occurred recently. On the evening of July 8, US President Trump declared a state of emergency in California.
The Associated Press reported that Trumps statement facilitated the federal governments support for people who had been hit hard by the earthquake. The Emergency Order gave the Federal Emergency Measures Agency (FEMA) the authority to coordinate relief efforts in Creen County and San Bernardino.
San Bernardino County spokesman David Watt said the local government provided bottled water to residents and trucked in portable toilets and showers, where electricity was restored over the weekend. Watt said the earthquake made people nervous, but it also brought the whole community together.
