On the afternoon of June 14, Fuzhou Intermediate Peoples Court of Fujian Province handed down a first instance judgment on the highly concerned 16-year case of fathers pursuing murder for their children: He Lida was found guilty of intentional injury, sentenced to death with a two-year suspension of execution; He Daoming was found guilty of harbouring and sentenced to four years and six monthsimprisonment.

Peng Mei News reported earlier that in September 2001, Wang Guohuas only son, Lin Peng (pseudonym), 17, was stabbed by 18-year-old high school student He Lida in a billiards shop in Fuqing City, Fujian Province. One of the stabs penetrated the thoracic aorta and died after being sent to hospital.

On the evening of the incident, He Lida fled to Guangzhou with the help of his father He Daoming and his relatives Xie Fei (who had been dealt with separately), after which the father and son disappeared one after another. Wang Guohua has embarked on a long road of pursuing murders, with footprints in more than ten countries all over the country and abroad.

This pursuit lasted for 16 years. With the joint efforts of Fuqing Public Security and Wang Guohua, the suspect He Lida, who had been hiding with other peoples identity cards for many years, fell into the net in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, at the end of September 2017. In June 2018, Fuzhou prosecution prosecuted He Lida for intentional injury. More than nine months later, the Fuzhou Intermediate Court opened a public hearing on the case.

Peng Mei News noted that the prosecution charged the defendant He Lida with intentional injury on the scene of the court trial, while Wang Guohua and his lawyers believed that the case should be characterized as intentional homicide.

I was young and ignorant at that time. I really made a big mistake, which caused great harm to both families. Im here to apologize. On the scene of the trial, He Lida once admitted his mistake in a low voice.
