In May, 27.47 million tons of coal were imported, an increase of 23.0% over the same period last month, an increase of 21.7 million tons; in January-May, 127.39 million tons of coal were imported, an increase of 5.6% over the same period last month.
Coal prices fell slightly. On May 31, the comprehensive trading price of Qinhuangdao 5500 cards of coal was 588 yuan per ton, 515 yuan per ton for 5000 cards and 459 yuan per ton for 4500 cards, down 3 yuan, 2 yuan and 2 yuan respectively from April 29.
In May, 16.23 million tons of crude oil were produced, up 1.0% year-on-year, 0.4 percentage points faster than last month, and the average daily output was 524,000 tons, which was the same as last month. From January to May, 79.29 million tons of crude oil were produced, an increase of 0.7% over the same period last year.
International crude oil prices fell. On May 31, the spot FOB price of Brent crude oil was $66.8 per barrel, down $5.4 from April 30.
In May, 51.9 million tons of crude oil were processed, an increase of 2.8% over the same period last year, a decline of 2.3 percentage points over the previous month; the average daily processing capacity was 1.674 million tons, a decrease of 63,000 tons over the previous month. From January to May, crude oil processing volume was 259.49 million tons, an increase of 4.4% over the same period last year.
IV. Accelerating Natural Gas Production and Falling Import Growth
In May, 14.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, an increase of 12.9% over the same period last year, an increase of 5.0 percentage points faster than last month; the average daily output was 470 million cubic meters, which was the same as last month. From January to May, 72.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, an increase of 9.8% over the same period last year.
In May, 7.56 million tons of natural gas were imported, an increase of 2.0% compared with the same period last month, and the growth rate fell by 10.7 percentage points. In January-May, 39.43 million tons of natural gas were imported, an increase of 13.4% compared with the same period last month.
V. Slowing down of Electric Power Production
In May, power generation was 558.9 billion kWh, up 0.2% year on year. Influenced by the reduction of working days in May and the higher base of high temperature weather in the same period last year, the growth rate of electric power production slowed down, falling by 3.6 percentage points from last month and 9.6 percentage points from the same period last year. The average daily power generation is 18.03 billion kWh, which is 1.0 billion kWh less than that of the previous year. From January to May, power generation increased by 3.3% at 2.8 trillion kWh, down 5.2 percentage points from the same period last year.

Raw coal: refers to the raw coal produced by a coal mine that has been checked and accepted and meets the quality standards. That is to say, gangue with specified size (including pyrite and other impurities) is selected from coal and raw coal with absolute dry ash content below 40%. Although the absolute dry ash content is over 40%, the inferior coal which has been mined with the approval of the relevant departments and has consumption demand should also be included in the output of raw coal. Raw coal is divided into anthracite, bituminous coal and lignite. In bituminous coal, it is divided into coking bituminous coal and general bituminous coal. Raw coal does not include stone coal, peat (peat) and gangue mined with the production process of raw coal.
