What application scenarios can Vehicle Networking achieve at present? What is the driving effect of issuing 5G licenses on vehicle networking? Many insiders believe that the issuance of 5G commercial licenses is a stimulus to the industry and can accelerate the development and resource concentration of key areas such as chips. However, the real landing of application scenarios such as vehicle networking and automatic driving under 5G technology depends on the coordination of policy support, infrastructure construction and other aspects.
When a vehicle is on the road, the push and reminder of the traffic light signal in front of it are synchronized with that of the central console in the vehicle; the vehicle can know the abnormal conditions of road construction and wet sliding ahead of time, and remind the driver to adjust the driving route; the vehicle can get the pedestrian information that is crossing the road, and remind the driver to avoid in time... In September last year, Ford first conducted open road test in Wuxi Vehicle Network Demonstration Application Base, Jiangsu Province, and demonstrated several C-V2X application scenarios.
In Wuxi project, the realization of V2X is mainly to get information from government cloud platform through 4G network, and direct information exchange between vehicles through point-to-point. He Zhiqiang, Director of Ford China Automobile Networking Products, told China News Weekly that the Wuxi Municipal Government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Information, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transportation and other relevant departments, has established a traffic information cloud platform in Wuxi City; the test vehicle obtains traffic information through the connection of Fords cloud platform and Wuxi cloud platform, and provides letters to drivers through algorithm and other information of the vehicle. C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) has become the frontier technology focus of vehicle networking for automobile enterprises, telecommunication industry chain enterprises, telecommunication operators and so on. In short, C-V2X is based on the honeycomb technology to realize the connection between vehicle and everything. It mainly includes four scenarios: vehicle and vehicle (V2V), vehicle and network (V2N), vehicle and infrastructure (V2I), vehicle and pedestrian (V2P).
The current stage of C-V2X development is mainly based on LTE mobile communication technology evolution LTE-V2X/LTE-eV2X technology, which can be used to meet the needs of automobile active safety warning and traffic efficiency enhancement services. What is the real improvement of 5G for vehicle networking? It can be seen through a set of data comparison: the self driving vehicle runs at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, if the delay is 60 milliseconds, the braking distance of the vehicle is about 1 meters; if it is 10 milliseconds, the braking distance of the vehicle is 17 centimeters; if the theoretical delay of 5G is reduced to 1 milliseconds, the braking distance will be reduced to only 17 millimeters.
The 5G characteristics of low delay, high bandwidth and high stability enhance the vehicles ability of perception, decision-making and execution of the environment, and bring good basic conditions for vehicle networking and automatic driving applications, especially those involving vehicle safety control. High-level self-driving functions involving vehicle control, such as formation driving and remote control, with low delay and high reliability, as well as applications requiring wide bandwidth, such as high-precision map download and video return, are needed. With the advance of 5G commercial timetable, the innovation of the vehicle network industry is becoming more and more active, and it faces a broad market development prospect. According to the data of China Automobile Engineering Society, the ratio of new car sales networking will reach 80% and 100% respectively in 2025 and 2030, and the total market scale will exceed trillion yuan. According to Accenture, an international consulting firm, Chinas car networking market will occupy a quarter of the global market by 2025.
The biggest market of mobile Internet of Things may be vehicle networking. The application of 5G technology represented by driverless cars may be the earliest application. Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said at the Boao Forum for Asia in 2019 that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was studying how to promote the development of vehicle network and would work with the Ministry of Communications to speed up the digitization and intelligent transformation of highways.
Previously, in the Action Plan for Industrial Development of Vehicle Networking (Intelligent Networked Automobile) issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in December 2018 (hereinafter referred to as Action Plan), the time point for large-scale commercial use of Intelligent Networked Automobile was proposed. After 2020, the high-level automatic driving function of Intelligent Networked Automobile and 5G-V2X gradually realized large-scale commercial application. The Action Plan also states that by 2020, the inter-industry convergence of the vehicle networking industry will achieve breakthroughs. Intelligent networking vehicles with high-level automatic driving function will achieve specific scenario-scale applications, and the penetration rate of the vehicle networking will reach more than 30%.
Synergy and Ecology
5G needs cross-industry application innovation, joint exploration of multi-win-win 5G business model, and strengthening the collaborative deployment ofcloud-tube-side-endfor 5G applications. Pan Feng said that because of the great technological changes and the high difficulty of product maturity in 5G, operators and equipment manufacturers have uncertainties in completely solving network planning, networking, operation and maintenance problems in a short period of time, and the adaptability between 5G terminals and networks needs to be gradually optimized and perfected in the commercial process.
At the same time, Huawei and other telecommunications equipment manufacturers have accelerated their penetration into the field of vehicle networking. Huawei, which has been widely praised as a car maker, officially upgraded its automotive business on May 27, setting up a smart car solution BU, ranking among the first-level departments. Auto networking, artificial intelligence and edge computing are three breakthroughs for Huawei in the future. Ren Zhengfei said earlier that Huawei Automobile Networks could set up commercial organizations and increase strategic investment in automobile driving.
For Huawei, the three major supporting business operators BG, enterprise BG and consumer BG are relatively mature, while the automotive sector is a new business opportunity. As early as 2013, Huawei set up the Vehicle Networking Business Department, which launched the vehicle module ME909T in that year, focusing on the in-depth layout of vehicle communication in the field of vehicle networking and automatic driving.
Unlike Huawei, the entry of Internet giants such as BAT is basically based on software systems, positioning to provide overall solutions for Internet vehicles. Tencent and Baidu, for example, enter the automotive field through AIINCAR on-board system and small-scale on-board OS system respectively.
Since 2019, Internet giants have been moving frequently in the field of vehicle networking. On January 27, Baidu officially released CarLife, a cross-platform vehicle networking solution. This is Baidus second major move into the Internet of Vehicles following the release of CarNet during last years Beijing Auto Show. Previously, Baidu announced the Apollo plan in 2017, announcing the opening of the automatic driving platform, which once became the largest Internet company in the wave of automatic driving.
Tencent, which is relatively low-key in the field of vehicle networking, officially released the Eco-Vehicle Networking solution on May 22. The content service ecosystem of Tencent and third party is organically integrated into the car, and the experience before, in and after the car is opened. With the improvement of industry maturity, the relationship between Vehicle Networking and automobile safety and big data has been paid more attention. Data ownership is also considered as the core assets of automobile enterprises. The Future of Autopilot
Each iteration of communication technology, higher network rate is the focus of upgrading, and the rate increase will be applied to many vertical industries. 5G defines three business scenarios: eMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband), mMTC (Massive Machine Communication), and uRLLC (Ultra Reliable Low Delay Communication).
Specifically, eMBB is mainly for large-volume mobile broadband services such as 3D/UHD video, which is equivalent to the enhancement of 4G network. The user experience rate is 0.1-1 Gpbs and the peak rate is 10 gbps. The mMTC scenario corresponds to larger applications such as the Internet of Things, which can support 1 million devices per square kilometer according to relevant standards; while uRLLC is characterized by ultra-reliable and low latency (less than 1 ms). Suitable for automatic driving, industrial automation and other scenarios.
SA was released in June 2018, half a year later than NSA. Previously, the choice of SA standard networking mode was the consensus of the Chinese telecommunications industry, especially the three major operators. In the process of formulating 5GSA standard, China Mobile led the formulation of the first version of 5G network architecture standard. In February and June of 2018, global partners such as Unilever Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia and Intel launched 5GSA Breakthrough Action and 5GSA Start Action, respectively, to promote the realization of SA standard.
