According to the UN news website, a food safety assessment released by the United Nations on May 3 shows that this year, North Korea suffered the worst food failure in 10 years, with more than 10 million people facing serious food shortage.

The assessment was prepared by FAO and WFP on the basis of two field visits to the DPRK in November 2018 and April this year. The two agencies recommended that the urgent needs of the DPRK be met by expanding the scale of food aid, while increasing the import of fertilizers, modern agricultural tools and seeds, and promoting disaster reduction measures, so as to provide long-term support for agricultural production.
