Twenty-eight billion dollars! Americas May Budget Deficit Breaks Historic Records

The sharp rise in the deficit was largely due to the weekend of June 1, which led to many federal spending in June in May. Treasury officials, who asked for anonymity, said that if calendar differences were taken into account, including the time taken to pay for health care, the May deficit would be smaller than the unadjusted result, about $159 billion.

So far, the deficit in fiscal year 2019 is $739 billion, compared with $532 billion in the same period in the previous fiscal year.

After adjusting for the calendar effect, the deficit for the current fiscal year is $692 billion, compared with $580 billion for the same period in the previous fiscal year.
