Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, June 13 (Xinhua) - UN Secretary-General Guterres strongly condemned the oil tanker attack in the Oman Sea on June 13, calling on the parties concerned to find out the truth of the incident.

Guterres spoke at the open meeting of the UN Security Council on the day of Cooperation between the United Nations and Regional and Subregional Organizations: League of Arab States and said: I strongly condemn any attack on civilian vessels. It is necessary to ascertain the facts and clarify responsibilities.

Guterres said the world could not afford serious confrontation in the Gulf.

Earlier in the day, two oil tankers were attacked and exploded in the Oman Sea, igniting a fire on board. According to media reports, the two tankers carrying crude oil were flying the flags of Marshall Islands and Panama respectively. Dozens of crew members on the tanker were evacuated safely after the attack.
