[Global Network Military Reporting] Russian Satellite News Agency reported on May 17 that in an interview with Red Star TV, President Rakhmanov of Russias Joint Shipbuilding Group said that the modernized Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier would be equipped with new air defense systems and new power equipment.
Its a new system integration, including new functions, new communication systems, new air defense systems, and updated power plants that enable ships to achieve maximum speed in a shorter time, Rachmanov said. Rachmanov pointed out that the modernization of Shipborne air forces will also be carried out at the same time.
In March, the chairman of the Russian Joint Shipbuilding Group said that the maintenance and upgrading of the carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, would be completed in 2021. The Russian Defense Minister, General Shaigu, pointed out in April that the maintenance and upgrading of the carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, was scheduled to end by 2020. The carrier unfortunately encountered an accident in the process of upgrading and transformation. In the early morning of October 30, 2018, when Admiral Kuznetsov, a heavy aircraft carrier, was launched into the water at the No. 82 shipyard, an emergency occurred: the water tank of the PD-50 floating dock was unusually full and suddenly sank underwater. In addition, the falling dock crane damaged part of the carrier deck and hull.
