Iran: Bolton fabricated intelligence to encourage Trump to deploy aircraft carriers to the Middle East

[Global Times comprehensive report] On the 9th local time, the Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations, Rafanci, accused US President Bolton, assistant for national security affairs, of fabricating intelligence and encouraging US President Trump to deploy aircraft carrier strike groups and bombers to the Middle East.

According to the Russian Satellite News Agency, the Central Command of the U.S. Air Force said Thursday that the B-52 bomber arrived at Qatars Udaid Air Force Base on the 9th under the framework of the bomber contingent deployed in the Middle East. Trump decided to deploy carrier strike groups and bombers to the Middle East, partly because of intelligence reports that Iranian authorities informed their agents of armed attacks on U.S. military personnel and assets in the region, NBC reported Wednesday. In an interview Thursday, Rafanci denied that these were false intelligence invented by Bolton. When the United States invaded Iraq, he was doing the same thing. In fact, even some members of the Democratic Party of the United States have accused Bolton of intensifying tensions and possibly triggering war. But Trump said Bolton was tough on some issues no problem and there are doves in my team, but ultimately its up to me to make decisions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif said Thursday that the EU should stop submitting to U.S. directives and safeguard the Iranian nuclear agreement, Iranian News and Television reported Thursday. Earlier Thursday, European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Mogherini issued a joint statement with the foreign ministers of Germany, Britain and France, saying they regretted the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran after the United States withdrew from the Iranian nuclear agreement. Todays EU statement is the main reason why Irans nuclear agreement is in trouble, Zarif said. The United States has been bullying Europe and the rest of the world for a year, while the EU can only express regret. The EU can not only ask Iran to unilaterally abide by multilateral agreements, but also fulfil its obligations, including normalization of economic relations.
