On May 9, Peng Mei News learned from Zhang Yuxi that he had received 1.21 million yuan of state compensation from the Xiayi County Court of Henan Province on that day.
The Xiayi County Court issued a decision on state compensation on April 30, which showed that Zhang Yuxi was detained for 3357 days. According to the compensation agreement reached with Zhang Yuxi, he should be paid 955872.2 yuan for infringement of personal freedom and 4127.8 yuan for spiritual damage.
Peng Mei News reported earlier that in 1992, Zhang Yuxi was involved in a neighbourhood fight dispute, one of the other party died, and he was subsequently arrested. Five years later, on May 19, 1997, the Xiayi County Court found that Zhang Yuxi and his cousins and others hit the victim on the top of his forehead with iron forks and sticks, causing the victim to fall unconscious immediately and die ineffective after rescue, and sentenced him to 11 yearsimprisonment for intentional injury (death). Zhang Yuxi refused to appeal and said he had not hit the victim with an iron fork. On October 28, 1997, Shangqiu Intermediate Court of Justice ruled in the second instance that the facts of the first instance judgment that Zhang Yuxi committed the crime of intentional injury were unclear and the evidence was insufficient, and decided to cancel the original judgment and send it back for retrial.
On July 19, 2001, the court of Xiayi County decided that Zhang Yuxis cousin Zhang Shengli was the murderer. Zhang Shengli struck the victims head with a wooden stick, resulting in a comminuted fracture of his skull. After rescue, he was ineffective and died. Zhang Shengli was sentenced to 13 yearsimprisonment for intentional injury (death). Zhang Shengli did not appeal after the first trial and was released from prison.
On September 11, 2001, Zhang Yuxi, who had been detained for nine years, was released from the detention center in Xiayi County. According to the release certificate, Zhang Yuxi was released on bail pending trial. Since then, the court has not heard the case, until July 12, 2018, Zhang Yuxi was again bailed pending trial.
On January 29, 2019, the court of Xiayi passed a verdict in court after hearing, and Zhang Yuxi was not guilty.
