BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) Nanjing, 14 (Xinhua) -- Reporters learned from the Memorial Hall of the Japanese Victims of the Nanjing Massacre (hereinafter referred to as the Memorial Hall) and the Exhibition Branch of the Old Site of the Comfort House in Liujixiang, Nanjing that the staff of the two museums confirmed a surviving victim of the Japanese comfort woman system in Liuyang, Hunan Province, the 93-year-old Chen Meiying. At present, the elderly are in poor health and can only travel by wheelchair.
According to the library, Chen Lao is the seventh confirmed and still alive victim of the Japanese comfort women system in Hunan.
In 2018, a local enthusiast in Liuyang came across the situation that Chen Meiying had been abducted as a comfort woman by the Japanese army. He found the old man and recorded his oral testimony.
Following the clues of the local media and with the help of local volunteers, the memorial went to Liuyang to visit the elderly and confirm their victimization.
The curator of the Memorial Museum for the Japanese invaders in Nanjing Massacre visited the elderly.
According to the old man, Chen Meiying was born in 1926 in Jingang Town, Liuyang, Hunan Province. At the turn of spring and summer in 1944, the Japanese army passed through the town of Kumgang, bringing together the villagers who had not had time to escape.
My father-in-law asked me to put a little pot ash on my face, hoping to make myself ugly and escape the sight of the Japanese army. However, Grandma Chen did not escape the Japanese armys claws. On that day, the same women who were captured were covered with pot ash or mud like Chen Meiying.
On the night of the captivity, Chen Meiying and other women were detained in a private house, humiliated by the Japanese army, and then tortured by the Japanese army for 28 consecutive days. When the Japanese army arrived at Sifen, Liling, for recuperation, Chen Meiying was too ill to walk.
At this time, a kind-hearted old mother in Sifen secretly hid Chen Meiying to protect her when the Japanese army went out of the village for training, and avoided the Japanese search and arrest. After the Japanese army left, the old mother sent people on foot for two days to send messages to King Kong. Finally, Chen Meiying was carried home by her family.
Until now, every rainy day, Chen Meiyings legs will be dull pain, this is the old wound that was destroyed by Japanese soldiers. Every night before going to bed, Grandma uses her own crutch to hold the door firmly.
The Memorial appeals to the community that the elderly are getting old. The staff of the memorial have been paying close attention to visiting all parts of the country to find the surviving victims of the comfort women system with volunteers. If the public has any clues, please contact the old exhibition hall of comfort house in Liji Lane, Nanjing as soon as possible.
