Blame Panasonic? Musk: Battery capacity limits Model 3 production

Netease Technologies News, April 14, according to foreign media reports, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Panasonics battery production line at the Tesla Nevada battery factory affected the production of Model 3 electric vehicles.

Since July, Panasonics battery production line has limited the production of Model 3 by only 24 gigawatt hours a year, Musk tweeted on Saturday, local time. Tesla wont spend money on expanding capacity until the existing production line approaches 35 gigawatts.

On Thursday, Japanese media reported that Tesla and Panasonic suspended plans to expand capacity at a factory near Reno City, causing Teslas share price to plunge. The media said that because sales of electric vehicles have been lower than planned, the two companies believe that it is too risky to make a large amount of extra investment now.

Panasonic did not immediately respond to media requests for comment.
