Musk: Teslas self-driving ability is soaring, so the cars price will rise in May.

Netease Technologies News April 14, according to foreign media reports, Tesla will substantially increase the price of its fully self-driving electric car on May 1, the company will show its latest self-driving ability at an event at the end of this month.

Earlier this week, Elon Musk said Teslas electric car had appreciated because of its increased self-driving ability.

Musks goal is to make Tesla a value-added asset for car owners, but if prices do not rise, Teslas value will still depreciate, as new buyers can still buy these cars at retail prices recommended by manufacturers.

Now Mr musk has confirmed that Tesla plans to substantially increase the price of fully automatic driving vehicles since May 1st. Musk tweet said, please note that the price of Tesla fully automatic driving vehicle will rise sharply over time. Musk also confirmed that this is what he meant by Tesla as a value-added asset.

Musk said the plan would add about $3,000 (about 20,000 yuan) to the package, bringing the price to about $8,000.

The price hike coincides with Teslas launch of a new fully self-driving computer, which was launched earlier this month. But it is not clear whether all new cars have new hardware installed.

Tesla refused to confirm the news, but the company said it would provide retrofitting services to all owners who bought fully automatic driving cars. Musk said the price of the service would rise next month.

Musk said they would start these changes in a few months, and tweeted that Tesla will start hardware upgrades in a few months.

How strong will the latest hardware be? Earlier this week, Musk said that Teslas latest autopilot hardware was only 5% capable under current autopilot software, compared with 80% in the previous generation.

For the rest of the year, Tesla is expected to release software updates to make the hardware fully functional and dramatically improve autopilot performance.

On April 22, Tesla will present its latest autopilot technology at an investor conference. (Zhai Zhongchao)
