Peoples Network, United Nations, April 13 (Reporter Li Xiaohong) Security Council held an open meeting on Colombia on 12. Wu Haitao, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, called on all parties in Colombia to give priority to advancing the peace process, strengthen inclusive political dialogue, accelerate economic and social reconstruction and achieve peace and development.
He said that the situation in Colombia is generally stable, the peace process has achieved early harvest, and progress has been made in alternative cultivation and rural development. At the same time, the full implementation of the Peace Agreement also faces some challenges, which require sustained and unremitting efforts by the Colombian parties and the international community.
He said that Colombia has experienced a long war and the full implementation of the peace agreement involves many issues, such as politics, security, development and social integration. It is a systematic project. China hopes that the Colombian parties will give priority to advancing the peace process, further expand consensus, continue to promote the full implementation of the peace agreement, strengthen inclusive political dialogue, accelerate economic and social reconstruction and ultimately achieve peace and development.
He pointed out that China noted the recent differences of views on the legislation of the special judicial mechanism for peace in Colombia, and hoped that the parties concerned would strengthen dialogue and consultation to promote a proper resolution of the issue as soon as possible. China appreciates the work of Special Representative Macheou and the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. It hopes that the Mission will continue to perform its duties and responsibilities, help the Colombian parties strengthen communication, enhance mutual trust, and promote joint efforts of all parties to advance the peace process.
He said that China would like to join other members of the Security Council in contributing to the continuation of the peace process in Colombia and the early realization of comprehensive peace, stability and development in Colombia.
