[TechWeb] The Dutch Antitrust Agency, the Dutch Consumer and Market Authority (NACM), has begun an investigation into Apples App Store App Store to determine whether Apple has abused its monopoly position in the App Store market.
NACM said it decided to investigate Apple after receiving complaints from other application providers during its market research of the entire App Store. To a large extent, application providers have to rely on Apple and Google to provide applications to users, said Henk Don, a NACM board member. NACM has received complaints from application developers, which seems to indicate that Apple has abused its position in the App Store. To this end, we will continue to investigate whether it meets the monopoly criteria.
Apple was investigated by NACM because Spotify, a Swedish music streaming service provider, complained to the EU antitrust regulator about Apples unfair treatment of its competitors in order to promote its own music streaming services.
Spotify said that Apple did this entirely to serve its own streaming music service, AppleMusic.
