 Taiwans amended regulations permit the use of mainland spare parts for special military equipment


Article 22 of the National Defense Industry Development Bill stipulates that the key components and raw materials for the research, development, production and maintenance of military products shall not come from legal persons, institutions or groups invested by mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or their people (residents), legal persons, organizations or other institutions in the third region. This restriction is not applicable to those who have obtained the consent of the competent authority for special needs.

Taiwans Ministry of Defense said that in order to avoid affecting Taiwans security, maintaining national defense security and effectively controlling the key components and raw materials needed for research, development, production and maintenance of military products, and taking into account the special needs of military products R&D, production and maintenance cases, it could agree to an open flexible mechanism. Therefore, in the first item, it specifies military products R&D, production and maintenance. The key components and raw materials shall not come from the mainland, but shall not be subject to the consent of the competent authorities for special needs.
