In March 2019, consumer prices rose by 2.3% year-on-year. Among them, urban rose 2.3%, rural rose 2.3%; food prices rose 4.1%, non-food prices rose 1.8%; consumer prices rose 2.4%, service prices rose 2.0%. In the first quarter, the total level of consumer prices in China rose by 1.8% compared with the same period last year.

In March, consumer prices fell by 0.4% annually. Among them, the city declined by 0.4%, the countryside by 0.3%, the food price by 0.9%, the non-food price by 0.2%, the consumer price by 0.1%, and the service price by 0.8%.

I. Year-on-year changes in prices of various commodities and services

In March, food, tobacco and alcohol prices rose 3.5% year-on-year, affecting CPI (consumer price index) by about 1.04 percentage points. Among them, fresh vegetable prices rose by 16.2%, affecting CPI by about 0.42 percentage points; fresh fruit prices rose by 7.7%, affecting CPI by about 0.14 percentage points; livestock prices rose by 4.7%, affecting CPI by about 0.20 percentage points (pork prices rose by 5.1%, affecting CPI by about 0.12 percentage points); poultry prices rose by 4.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.05 percentage points; food prices rose by 0.05 percentage points; 4%, affecting CPI rise by about 0.01 percentage points; egg prices fell by 4.1%, affecting CPI decline by about 0.02 percentage points; aquatic products prices fell by 3.0%, affecting CPI decline by about 0.06 percentage points.

The other seven categories of prices all rose year on year. Among them, the prices of health care, education, culture, entertainment and housing rose by 2.7%, 2.4% and 2.1%, the prices of clothing, other goods and services rose by 2.0% and 1.9%, and the prices of daily necessities and services, transportation and communications rose by 1.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

II. Ring-to-Ring Changes in Prices of Various Goods and Services

In March, food, tobacco and alcohol prices fell by 0.6% annually, affecting CPI by about 0.19 percentage points. Among them, the price of eggs dropped by 6.0%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points; the price of aquatic products dropped by 3.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.07 percentage points; the price of fresh vegetables dropped by 2.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.08 percentage points; the price of poultry decreased by 1.2%, affecting CPI by about 0.02 percentage points; the price of livestock decreased by 0.1% (pork price rose by 1.2%, affecting CPI by about 0.03 percentage points* Fresh fruit prices rose by 0.3%, affecting CPI by about 0.01 percentage points.

The other seven categories of prices have risen and fallen four times from the third. Among them, the prices of clothing, housing and health care rose by 0.6%, 0.1% and 0.1% respectively; the prices of daily necessities and services, transportation and communications decreased by 0.3%; the prices of education, culture and entertainment, other goods and services decreased by 1.6% and 0.5%, respectively.
