Reference News Network reported on March 6, according to the Russian Satellite News Agency quoted by Indias Economic Times on March 4, India and Russia will recently sign an agreement to lease another Russian-made Akula-class nuclear-powered submarine to India (the Indian name is Chakra-3).
According to Indias Economic Times, the two countries plan to sign a formal agreement on March 7. It is reported that the total amount of the agreement is US$3 billion, and the construction of the new submarine is expected to be completed by 2025.

In 2012, India leased a 971 attack nuclear submarine to the Russian Navy and named it Chakra. The vessel was due to be delivered in 2007, but due to some difficulties, the transfer document was not signed until December 30, 2011. Nevertheless, India was satisfied with the agreement to lease the submarine and soon began negotiations with Russia on the lease of a second nuclear submarine.
