On the afternoon of March 5, the CPPCC held a press conference at the press centre of the two sessions of the CPPCC in Medea on winning, preventing and defusing major risks, eliminating poverty accurately and preventing pollution. Wang Peian, deputy director of the CPPCC Committee on Population, Resources and Environment and Secretary of the Party Group of the China Family Planning Association, introduced that in 2018, healthy poverty alleviation played an important role and 1.95 million households in the country were poor due to illness. Poverty-stricken households have been lifted out of poverty, with 16.6 million people living in poverty in rural areas across the country. More than 40% of them have returned to poverty due to illness. Poverty-stricken returning to poverty due to illness is the main direction of poverty alleviation.
